My art teacher and overview for this blog recently put me on this program called Art:21. This program brings together artist from all over the United States to showcase their abilities. Each episode showcases different artists and a centralized theme. In the fifth season these themes included fantasy, transformation, and compassion. The artists go beyond the usual canvas and paintbrush, utilizing explosions, sculptures, and their environment to create their vision. I am a much more traditional artist with my only tools usually consisting of a pen and a pad of paper. The lengths these artists go to in their forms of expression have me conflicted. As previously stated I enjoy the more traditional art, consisting of a canvas or mural. One of my favorite young artist is Ibrahim Yaqut. His portraits and graffiti styled drawings have become some of my greatest inspirations and motivations to where I want my artistic ability to mature. Now the artists featured in this program have extreme talent and amazing interpretations. Yet I am just not a fan of this type of art. I respect it and hope this program has longevity and the artists prosper but I cannot see myself taking up these art forms that extend beyond a pencil or some paint.
